In her lecture, she will present the restorative justice approach and in particular the subcategory practised in Germany, i.e. the offender-victim mediation regulated by § 46a StGB.

The Venice Declaration of the Ministers of Justice of the European Council of December emphasized in December 2021 that restorative justice should not merely be a tool to deal with criminal offences, but a culture permeating the judicial system.

Against this background, it will be discussed whether restorative justice can be a useful addition to criminal justice or whether this constitutes an unresolvable contradiction.
