Prof. Dr. Gralf-Peter Calliess, Prof. Dr. Pia Lange and Prof. Dr. Lars Viellechner participated in the 3rd YUFE Law Conference, which took place at the University of Rijeka in Croatia on 23 and 24 June 2022.
The University Alliance YUFE (Young Universities for the Future of Europe) held its third Law Conference on 23 and 24 June 2022 at the University of Rijeka. For the first time after the Corona pandemic, the annual exchange could take place on site again. A delegation of the Faculty of Law of Bremen University including the Dean Prof. Dr. Gralf-Peter Calliess, Prof. Dr. Pia Lange and Prof. Dr. Lars Viellechner attended the conference.
The scientific part of the conference was focused on the future-oriented topic of “Sustainability as a Legal Principle”. Prof. Dr. Pia Lange held a talk on “Sustainability as Legal Principle: Shifting the Three-Pillar-Structure” in this context. Prof. Dr. Lars Viellechner talked about “Sustainability Through Fundamental Rights? The Concept of an ‘Intertemporal Guarantee of Freedom’ in the German Climate Change Case”. There was a very stimulating and productive discussion on these pressing questions.
The operative part of the conference was concerned with the further expansion of cooperation in research and teaching. The Bremen delegation supported in particular the establishment of a permanent joint study programme, which would allow for a study exchange without time losses through mutual recognition of examinations. At the Bremen Faculty of Law, an English-language area of specialisation entitled “Transnational Law”, which will also be part of the state examination study programme, will be established in the summer semester 2023 to this end.
