Equal Opportunities Unit
The Equal Opportunities Unit advises students, staff, supervisors, and the University Executive Board on the implementation of gender equality. In addition to gender and diversity-sensitive activities, it runs programs, projects, and events for particular focus groups.

Faculty Gender Equality Commissioner
The faculty gender equality commissioners are responsible for the implementation of the statutory gender equality mandate within the faculties and the Collaborative Research Centers as well as the central research units and institutes. This also includes support and advice for female students and researchers.
Gender Equality Officer
The gender equality officer’s task is to support the university boards in the implementation of the statutory gender equality mandate as stipulated by the Higher Education Act of the State of Bremen (BremHG). She* is the contact person for female* professors, academic staff, doctoral students, and undergraduate students and offers advice and assistance when problems arise.

Counseling for persons who face discrimination
Advicoy and Information Centre against Discrimination and Violence (ADE)
ADE is a counseling and advisory center for dealing with conflicts, discrimination, and violence in education, studies, and at the workplace. The services offered include counseling, information, events, and training. Here ere are the services offered by ADE.

Counseling for persons with care responsibilities
Family-Friendly University Working Group
The Family-Friendly University working group consists of students who are actively committed to improving conditions for students with children or other care responsibilities at the university. They are affiliated with the Equal Opportunities Office.
Family Caregiver Working Group
The Family Caregiver Working Group initiates and accompanies offers for university members with domestic care obligations. The monthly Family Caregiver Support Group is an opportunity for staff with domestic care responsibilities for networking and exchange with others who are in a similar situation. With approval of the Director of Finance and Administration, participation in the support group is regarded as regular working time
Family-Friendly University
Since 2007, the university has been explicitly committed to being a family-friendly university. The aim is to ensure that students and staff are able to reconcile working, studying, and researching at university with caring for children or other relatives. The Staff Portal provides valuable information on childcare services and legal as well as financial matters.
Dual Career Welcome Center
The University of Bremen supports newly appointed professors and their partners in getting settled in Bremen. The Dual Career Welcome Center can assist in organizing childcare or finding suitable employment for accompanying partners.

The certified physiologist Kassandra Ruhm of the in-house social counseling service provides counseling on topics such as reconciling work and caring for relatives, flexible work arrangements, and much more.

The University Doctors are at our university on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can talk to them in person by appointment. Scheduling for occupational medical examinations is coordinated by Administrative Unit 09.

Psychological Counselig Centre (PBS)
The PBS offers assistance with study-related and personal problems. It provides counseling and coaching in case of test anxiety and speech anxiety, supports individuals with difficulties in studying/ working, as well as supports students with mental health issues. All offers are free of charge and confidential. The counselors working at the PBS are subject to the principle of confidentiality.

Citical Initivative for Diversity and Inclusion (kivi)
The Critical Initiative for Diversity and Inclusion (kivi) is an independent student initiative that advocates the interests of students with special needs and is committed to working towards a sustainable non-discriminatory and barrier-free organization of university studies. kivi supports students with special needs and assists them if they have any problems or questions.

Kristin Hoppe advocates for the interests of staff with disabilities and provides advice and assistance. She is also the contact person for any questions related to workplace integration management (BEM) at the University of Bremen.

Preparation Studies
While learning German, you can enroll as a preparation student at the University of Bremen. As a preparation student, you can enjoy many student benefits, such as having a student ID, a semester ticket, being able to eat in the Mensa cafeteria at the cheaper student rate. HERE offers counseling for refugees who plan to study in Bremen or Bremerhaven. It is a joint office of all state universities in Bremen and Bremerhaven, and is located on the campus of the University of Bremen.
