20, Planning and Control of Technical Production and Logistics Systems

The research group Planning and Control of Production and Logistics Systems (PSPS) subjects the holistic optimization of production systems as well as logistics networks. Planning concepts, control concepts and control methods are researched as well as developed on the basis of interdisciplinary approaches. Levels of consideration for research are the technological, informationial and communicational as well as socio-technical system. An object of consideration along the entire value chain can be either a single company or a production network. Research results are applied in industrial projects as well as in teaching. Therefore the department cooperates closely with BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH.
Established was the department in 2000 by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Scholz-Reiter, who was elected Rector of the University of Bremen in 2012. Since 2014 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Freitag has been head of the department. Prof. Freitag is also the director of BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH, where he heads the research area Intelligent Production and Logistics Systems (IPS).
