Student incomings

Welcome to Bremen!

We look forward to welcoming you as a visiting student or international program student at the Department of Production Engineering.

Our courses are aimed at both Bachelor's and Master's students in the fields of mechanical engineering, process engineering, materials science, aerospace engineering, systems engineering and industrial engineering.

In the Bachelor's program, most of the teaching takes place in German, but there are also individual modules in the elective area that are taught in English. In the Master's programs, you will find a wider range of English-language courses in addition to many German-language courses. The M.Sc. Space Engineering is an English-language program. Many of the lectures can also be attended by visiting students.

On this page, we would like to provide you with some information for your study stay at the University of Bremen and the Department of Production Engineering.

At the University of Bremen, the winter semester begins every year on October 1st, the summer semester on April 1st.

The lecture period lasts 14 weeks and usually begins about two weeks after the start of the semester. Introductory events, language courses and orientation sessions take place in the first two weeks of the semester.

Exams usually take place during the lecture-free period in February/March or July/August. In some courses, there may also be exams during the semester.

The current and future lecture times and holiday dates can be found at https://www.uni-bremen.de/en/studies/starting-your-studies/academic-year

Course selection

The courses of a semester are usually published in the online course directory only 1 - 2 months before the start of the semester.

If you would like to find out earlier, you can call up the last summer or winter semester in the semester selection. There are usually only minor changes to the courses on offer.

In principle, you may take courses from the entire range offered by the University of Bremen. However, please discuss this in advance with the internationalization officers at the Faculty of Production Engineering.

You can find a list of all English-language courses via the filter function “Search for courses”. The course numbers of all courses offered by the Faculty of Production Engineering start with 04-, courses offered by the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics start with 07-.

Learning Agreement

The contact persons at the Department of Production Engineering for coordinating and signing the Learning Agreement are the representatives for internationalization / Erasmus of the department Prof. Lucio Colombi Ciacchi and Svenja Schell. Please use fb04int@uni-bremen.de to contact us.

The University of Bremen is connected to Erasmus without Papers (EWP) via the platform Mobility Online.

Courses

The academic year at the University of Bremen is divided into two semesters:

Winter semester from October 1 to March 31
Summer semester from April 1 to September 30

Courses are held over a period of 14 weeks:

Winter semester: mid-October to early February
Summer semester: early/mid-April to early/mid-July

Courses are mostly held in-person, although some are offered as online or blended learning formats, where part of the course is taught in-person/online and part is self-directed.

For the registration and organization of courses, the University of Bremen uses the Stud.IP learning platform, where you must register with your university account. On Stud.IP, you can create your schedule and register for your selected courses.

Examinations

Examinations for most modules take place after the end of the course period, i.e., in February and March in the winter semester, and in July and August in the summer semester.

Typical examination formats include written exams, oral exams, presentations, and written assignments. The examination format can be found in the module description. It will also be announced by the instructor at the beginning of the course.

Exchange students do not register through the Examinations Office if they wish to take an exam, but rather register directly with the examiners.

Language skills in the language of instruction should be at level B2.

German language skills are only expected if you are taking courses taught in German.
