Fraunhofer IFAM is a research institute with a focus placed on materials science. More than 650 employees from the fields of shaping and functional materials as well as bonding technology and surfaces combine their expertise in various core competencies to provide the industry with application-oriented system solutions.
The development work of the Institute's Shaping and Functional Materials Division focuses on customized material solutions with optimized manufacturing methods and processes. Ranging with a spectrum from materials and shaping to the functionalization of components and systems. Complex topics such as rare earths, solid state batteries, electric drive systems, components for new vehicle concepts, lightweight construction, but also current issues of sustainable, affordable as well as safe energy supply are subjects of work in the institute.
