Fraunhofer IFAM is a materials science oriented institute with over 650 employees researching in the fields of bonding technology and surfaces as well as shaping and functional materials. Employees combine their expertise in various core competencies to research new technologies for application-relevant issues.
The Bonding Technology and Surfaces Division is the largest independent research institution in Europe in the field of industrial bonding technology. Research is focussed on polymer materials, bonding, surface technology, process automation and digitalisation. Scientific activities of the division place a focus on functional polymers and their production integration, on fast industrial processes as well as on the ageing of materials and components.
Important fields of application are transportation, mechanical and plant engineering, medical technology, the maritime sector as well as the electronics industry.
