Wiethölter was a member of the Founding Senate of the University of Bremen in 1970/71 and played an important part in shaping the reform approach of legal education in Bremen. On the invitation of Gralf-Peter Calliess (Institute for Commercial Law) and Peer Zumbansen (McGill University, Montreal), former colleagues and students came together in Bremen, among them numerous emeriti of the Faculty of Law.
