Berninghausen Prize for outstanding teaching

The University of Bremen has been awarding a teaching prize since 1991. Sponsored by the Berninghausen family, it is awarded annually for outstanding achievements in academic teaching. Since 2012, the award ceremony has been held as part of the "Teaching Day". A prize for good teaching and a student prize are awarded.
In addition to student-centered teaching, good teaching is defined by the following criteria:

  • Innovative                          
  • International
  • Integrative
  • Inclusive
  • Interdisciplinary

Students can nominate teachers for the student award who should be rcognized for their good teaching. Further details and deadlines can be found on the  Berninghausen Prize website. 

Bremen Prize for Excellent Teaching

A Teaching Award recognizes the exceptional commitment and makes outstanding teaching visible.

The Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science awards the Bremen University Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

Since 2020, the Bremen University Prize for Excellence in Teaching has been awarded every two years. The prize is awarded for outstanding and innovative achievements in teaching, examining, advising and supporting students at a university in Bremen and is endowed with a total of EUR 40,000. A prize of EUR 25,000 is awarded in the category "Curricular innovations and team teaching" and a prize of EUR 15,000 in the category "Teaching and skills transfer".

The working groups, teams, organizational units or individuals direct their applications to the Senator for Environment, Climate and Science. Applications, including all documents, must be submitted by 08.07.2024.
