Rankings
For some years now, university rankings have also become established in Germany, despite their controversial significance and methodology. They evaluate the quality of research and teaching at universities on the basis of various indicators and draw up rankings with individual places or even groups of places.
For the quality assurance of these rankings, the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) agreed in 2006 to the so-called Berlin Principles on Ranking of Higher Education Institutions. In 2015, the IREG also published the Guidelines for Stakeholders of Academic Rankings.
The University of Bremen is one of the leading research universities in Germany. This is also reflected by the successful applications to the Excellence Initiative. With regard to the rankings, the University of Bremen, only a medium-sized university (without medical faculties), has also achieved great results in the national as well as the international rankings.
