Expenses of the University of Bremen

Hinzu kamen noch die privaten Konsumausgaben der Studierenden der Universität Bremen in Höhe von 217 Mio. Euro.

Regional value added

In 2012, the expenditure of the University of Bremen and its students triggered a regional gross value added of 257 million euros and 111 million euros respectively. This means that 72% of the original impetus for expenditure remains in the state of Bremen as added value.

If this value added effect is set in relation to the basic funding that the University of Bremen receives from the state of Bremen, 1 euro of basic funding generates 2.7 euros of gross value added.

Regional employment effect

In 2012, a total of 6,357 jobs in the state of Bremen were attributable to expenditure by the University of Bremen and its students.

A good half of these were employment relationships at the university itself. This means that for every person employed directly at the University of Bremen, 0.9 other jobs are created in the region.

Development of expenses

Since 2012, the University of Bremen's expenditure has continued to grow and totalled € 308 million in 2016.

Of this, € 222 million was spent on personnel, € 69 million on consumption and € 17 million on investments.

GDP growth through Bremen's universities

On average between 2001 and 2009, the universities in the state of Bremen increased the gross domestic product of the state of Bremen by 8 per cent or 2.2 billion euros.

Based on the number of students at Bremen's universities, at least 60 per cent of the effect can be attributed to the University of Bremen.

Labour market effects of Bremen's universities

On average between 2001 and 2009, Bremen's universities have reduced the unemployment rate in the state of Bremen by 2.7 percentage points.
