**
This seminar series intends to convey exciting aerospace research questions on a more general level and to allow discussions between experts and audience. Professionals from academia and industry will look into applications from space research, some of which have become vital parts of our everyday life. The technological challenges of astronautics and past, present and future space missions will also be tackled.

Research software development deserves a systematic approach to keep up with the demand for reproducible science and reuse of codes as a citeable scientific output.
In the context of Open Science, sustainable research software is more and more estimated as vital component of research infrastructures.
This course provides an introduction to the practice of scientific programming to a broader audience within the General Studies. The basis are real world research codes that will be explored and executed on local programming environments - either on students laptops or on central compute nodes at University Bremen.
Principles of code-management and code publication will be actively explored in small practical projects, open for students interests in bringing their own software projects. Two main "code use cases" are provided, based on Fortran and C programming language, and further projects are offered for R and C++ as well. Special emphasis is laid on performance optimization and two standard approaches of parallelization, i.e. loop parallelization and domain decomposition.

The course is useful for math students and interested participants from other fields (e.g. industrial math, numerics of PDEs, modeling seminar, material sciences - ProMat).

META-2022/IF-IS.2022.MOD.01Hack your CAD models! Grundlagen des Computer Aided Design (CAD) mit FreeCAD und Python (in English)

Blockveranstaltung (Teaching)
ECTS: 1-2

Class Period: Mon 20 Sep – Fri 24 Sep 2021

Parametric feature-based 3D-models are the base for current CAD systems used in mechanical and civil engineering as well as in architecture and other disciplines. An example is FreeCAD, an OpenSource-CAD-application with functionality similar to commercial programs such as CATIA, SolidWorks or Solid Edge. In addition to the creation of models, FreeCAD also allows for analysis (e.g. FEM), simulation and rendering. It can be extended through scripts in Python or plugins in C++.

The participants will model a parametric object for 3D-printing together in small interdisciplinary groups. In the process, they get to know typical CAD functionality used in a practical example, and beyond that learn about the theoretical foundations of CAD-modelling, the various modelling paradigms and the underlying data models. They come to know how to use Python scripts in order to analyse CAD models and automate modelling tasks.

Finally we are going to prepare the model for 3D print.

Hint: This course is part of the international summer schools Informatica Feminale and Ingenieurinnen-Sommeruni. Participants need to register via https://www.informatica-feminale.de or https://www.ingenieurinnen-sommeruni.de.

Mon. 25.07.22 - Thu. 28.07.22 (Mon., Tue., Wed., Thu.) 09:00 - 12:00

Class period: Mon 25th Jul - Thu 28th Jul 2022

The course introduces the concepts of Big Data Processing which involves structured, unstructured and semi structured data. Data preprocessing methods such as data cleaning, integration and reduction needed for machine learning algorithms are discussed. Different types of distributed architectures such as Hadoop and HPCC systems platform are compared and the advantages of using HPCC systems platform are demonstrated. ECL (Enterprise Control Language), a declarative and parallel programming language is introduced in the course. Students are exposed to the concepts of machine learning algorithms that can be implemented on distributed platforms using ECL. The concepts taught during the course can be applied by the participants to analyze big data on distributed platforms in domain of their interest.

Lecture (Teaching)
ECTS: 3

Whether it is coping with ‘Peak Oil’, meeting the challenge of climate change, helping farmers in poorer countries through fair trade, or finding ways to keep discarded products out of the landfills, sustainability issues are the biggest challenges facing businesses. The course shows how the complexities of sustainability issues can be integrated into marketing. The systematic, step-by-step approach of sustainability marketing involves: an analysis of socio-ecological priorities to complement conventional consumer and market research; an integration of ethical values into marketing strategy; the development of sustainability marketing strategies; a new consumer-oriented sustainability marketing mix of the ‘4 Cs’ (Customer Solutions, Communications, Customer Cost, Convenience) to replace the outmoded and producer-oriented ‘4 Ps’; and finally an analysis how innovation and marketing can go beyond responding to social change to contribute to a transformation to a more sustainable society. The course is ideally suited to both students and practitioners at many different levels and disciplines, including marketing, innovation, CSR, sustainability and environmental management.
