New Degree Courses Starting in Winter Semester

Starting next winter semester 2011/2012 the University of Bremen will be offering several new degree courses: three Bachelors and three Masters. A fourth new Masters program, Master of Arts in Early Childhood Pedagogy (Frühkindliche Bildung), is already in the planning stage.

One of the new Bachelor programs being started in the coming winter semester is the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Communication and Media Studies. The new degree course integrates broad fundamentals in communication and media studies together with methodology and staggered work placements carried out in cooperation with local media enterprises. Depending on personal preferences, students can choose their majors between the two main subject areas of media analysis and media practice.

Graduates find career opportunities in "media practice" within the media sector, for instance in press and public relations, online and event marketing, and multimedia production. It is also be possible to pursue more in-depth studies in journalism within the context of a career-based Masters program or extra-mural journalistic training in media enterprises (journalistisches Volontariat). A third career path is open to students interested in university or extra-mural research: they can go on to advanced studies (Masters) in which they investigate, for instance, current and historical changes in the media landscape. You can obtain more information on the subject at Datenbank Studium
