Job description

The position will be within the department “Life Course, Life Course Policy and Social Integration” of the SOCIUM – Research Center on Inequality and Social Policy, in the working group “Social Inequality and Social Structure Analysis” headed by Prof. Dr. Wiebke Schulz. The working group focuses on issues related to dynamics of inequality in life course trajectories of men and women, in particular regarding educational and occupational outcomes. Another important focus is the intergenerational reproduction of inequalities, e.g. how the family of origin shapes the early and later life inequalities in e.g. abilities, educational and occupational attainment.

Tasks:

• The successful candidate will participate in ongoing research projects related to one of the following topics: educational and occupational inequalities, interrelations between work and family
• The successful candidate is expected to pursue a dissertation.
• Teaching (3 hours of teaching/ 3 SWS) in English or German.

Requirements

• Excellent academic background; a Master’s degree in Sociology or neighboring fields
• Interest in one of the following research fields is expected: stratification, life course, family and quantitative methods
• Very good quantitative methods skills or methods of computational social sciences
• Very good English language skills are required
• The ability to teach German or the willingness to acquire this ability within one year.
