Research Data Management

In the context of advancing digitization, the management of research data is a central component of any scientific investigation. The University of Bremen's Regulations for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice (only available in German) already point out that research data that form the basis of publications should be kept on secure data carriers for at least ten years.

Research funders such as the DFG also require that research data be stored on secure data carriers for at least ten years. When applying for research funding from national and international funders, it is necessary to develop a comprehensive data management plan. This includes not only a description of the data collection itself, but also sufficient documentation and much more. Each step must be documented in such a way that third parties can work with the data in the event of publication. This is the only way to make scientific findings traceable and reproducible.

We can support and advise you in the search for suitable repositories, in the creation of data management plans, and in all other relevant questions. In addition, we offer continuing education courses through the Bremen Early Career Researcher Development program (BYRD).

At the beginning of 2019, the Research Data Management Steering Committee published recommendations for handling research data at the University of Bremen. These were adopted by the University Executive Board as well as confirmed by the Academic Senate. These general recommendations serve as a general orientation. Practical and more differentiated recommendations are generally available from scientific societies. A list of the known and publicly available recommendations can be found on this page.
