The subject of the course is a systematic elaboration of theoretical, aesthetic, historical and practical knowledge in the complex cultural and social contexts of art, film and society. The basis is the analysis of the specific qualities of the objects of the visual arts, the film, the (audio) visual culture and the architecture, as well as processes of their production and reception. The examination of works, their aesthetics and their production contexts includes forms and dispositives of their participation in social discourse formation and social action cultures.
The study comprises 10 modules. These include 5 core modules (A) from the field of art and film science on theoretical, historical and methodological foundations, systematic and exemplary specializations, research formats and the master's thesis, 1 module from supplementary area (B) to archives, collections and exhibitions, 2 modules the field of practice (C), as well as 2 integration modules (D) on cultural and mediation theory and an accompanying self-study. The core modules systematically develop and deepen the special basics of art science and film studies and enable independent, theory-led research work. The supplementary and practical area offers space for individual emphasis of study at the interfaces of theoretical and practical fields.
The integration modules systematically open up the contexts of cultural and mediation theory, and accompany individual focuses of the study. In the course of the study, the students become familiar with the fields of art science, film studies and project work. The modular structure of the courses offered and the structure into core, integration, practice and supplementary areas facilitate orientation and support the ability to study.
