Enroll in the First YUFE Academy Now

Interested University members and the general public have the opportunity to take part in the first YUFE Academy in November and December 2020. The ten partner universities are offering online lectures on Europe-related topics. Registration is open now.

For five weeks in November and December, four weekly English-speaking online lectures will take place at the ten YUFE universities. It is possible to partake in several classes online or just individual ones. The YUFE Academy will concentrate on YUFE’s first field of focus: European identity and responsibility in a global world. The lectures will deal with the values, culture, and roots of Europe as we know it today, but also with its future, economic changes, and also education and tourism in the world before and after the corona pandemic.

University of Bremen’s Online Classes on November 17th and 18th

The University of Bremen will hold two classes for the YUFE Academy. On Tuesday, November 17, 2020, Professor Shalini Randeria and Dr. Jens Adam will talk about the topic „Decentering Europe“. Shalini Randeria holds a U Bremen Excellence Chair within the interdisciplinary Worlds of Contradiction (WoC) research network. Jens Adam is part of the linked Soft Authoritarianisms U Bremen Excellence Chair research group. On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, the head of the Languages Centre for the Universities in the Land of Bremen, Professor Claudia Harsch, will follow. Her talk centers on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which plays a significant role in language learning. It is possible to register for both events, which will take place between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., until November 6, 2020. For the event on November 17, 2020, it is also possible to register by November 16 at diversity-at-ubprotect me ?!uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de.

About YUFE

The Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) Alliance brings together ten young research-intensive universities – including the University of Bremen – from as many European countries and four non-academic partners. They are committed to creating the leading model of a student-centered, open, and inclusive European university. In YUFE, students, executives, and staff from within and outside academia work side by side to contribute to a more equitable, diverse, and effective education system in Europe and globally.

YUFE’s vision is to enable students to compile their own curriculum from courses offered across the ten YUFE universities towards a YUFE Certificate and, in the future, a true European degree. In addition, the YUFE Virtual Campus will host all the members’ online course offers. The official language is English, but students will be able to learn the language of the host country that they visit, either physically or virtually. They will also have opportunity to volunteer or complete internships within YUFE. Academic and non-academic university staff are also to benefit from joint projects and exchange opportunities in the YUFE alliance. For example, the University of Bremen is promoting research cooperations with "Bremen’s YUFE Mobility Award".
