In cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Economics and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the German Sustainability Award Foundation honors particularly exemplary companies from 100 industries. 224 expert jurors from research, associations, advisory services, and civil society selected the nominees, which include the University of Bremen and the University of Oldenburg. "There are successful solutions to the pressing challenges of sustainability in all industries. Now it is a matter of taking them to a wider audience in order to accelerate and strengthen the necessary transformation," states the German Sustainability Award Foundation.
President Günther: "We see ourselves as a driving force"
"I am delighted that the University of Bremen and the University of Oldenburg, with whom we work closely, have once again been nominated for the German Sustainability Award. We see ourselves as a driving force in the social transformation towards sustainability. The nomination shows that our work for more sustainability is also being so clearly noticed on a national level," says Professor Jutta Günther, President of the University of Bremen.
"The close connection between the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen has many facets and is constantly being expanded. We are also united by the fact that sustainability is a high priority for us – be it in research, learning and teaching, transfer, or facility management," states University President Prof. Dr. Ralph Bruder.
The University of Bremen and the University of Oldenburg collaborate closely in numerous academic projects, for example in the ForWind Center for Wind Energy Research and in two research training groups in the fields of computer science (CAUSE) and medical technology (HEARAZ), which were recently approved by the DFG. In addition, both universities are submitting an application for continuation in the upcoming full application phase of the federal government and the federal states’ Excellence Strategy for the "The Ocean Floor – Earth's Uncharted Interface” Excellence Cluster, which is based at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen.
In addition to the University of Bremen and the University of Oldenburg, nine other schools and universities across the country were nominated: the Free University of Berlin, Clausthal University of Technology, the universities of Greifswald, Hamburg, Hohenheim, the Technical University of Munich, Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, Trier University of Applied Sciences, and "viversus gemeinnützige Aktiengesellschaft."
The German Sustainability Award
By its own account, the German Sustainability Award is the largest award of its kind in Europe and, according to a recent study by the University of Hohenheim, the best known and one of the most credible of the 140 sustainability awards in Germany.
