“Viecher:” On-Campus Play About Insect Decline

A Kafkaesque journey through global change and the insect population collapse will be presented in two theatrical performances as part of the University of Bremen's Sustainability Fair on October 24. The play “Viecher” will take place at 2 p.m. in the campus park.

In the open-air play “Viecher,” the four young theater artists Ella Kratzer, Thore Laschke, Hannes Schmidt, and Jan Kaplaneck of the MÜH collective address the global decline in insect populations, combining the topic with Kafka's “Metamorphosis” in a very creative, funny, but also depressing way that will leave a lasting impression on the audience.

The event takes place as part of the sustainability fair of the University of Bremen with the goal of creating a cultural means of communication on the topic of biodiversity. Promoting and preserving biodiversity is central to sustainable development.

The piece will be presented by the BreGoS project, which investigates the possibilities and chances of success of biodiversity-promoting measures in urban areas in the “Campus Goes Biodiverse” real-world laboratory.

The BreGoS project is a collaboration of all Bremen universities (University of Bremen, Hochschule Bremen - City University of Applied Sciences, Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, and the University of the Arts Bremen) that seeks to jointly use their different expertise and perspectives to develop and implement options for action in the research areas of biodiversity, climate protection, mobility, and resource conservation.

The play will be performed outdoors, and we recommend wearing suitable clothing.
