Faculty 2 (Biology/Chemistry) is seeking to fill the the following position in Biology as of 01.10.2025.

Professorship (f/m/d) in Molecular Neurobiology

grade W2 in a civil servant relationship for life (if the requirements under civil service law are met).

Job description

The research focus of the professorship is on the investigation of neuronal networks using spatially and temporally high-resolution methods. We are looking for expertise in electrophysiology and optogenetics. The aim is to understand how neuronal networks control behavior in vertebrates and which information processing mechanisms play a role in this.

A willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, in particular with the molecular and neurobiological research groups in the department with a focus on the further development of modern neuroscientific methods, is expected. Furthermore, the professorship should strengthen the close cooperation of the FB02 with the scientific focal points of the University of Bremen, especially in the area of Minds, Media and Machines. Corresponding opportunities for cooperation also exist in the fields of marine sciences, engineering and health sciences. A strong commitment to interdisciplinary cooperation both within and outside the University of Bremen and with the partner University of Oldenburg is expected.

Requirements

The post holder will teach courses in the German-language Bachelor's degree program in Biology and in the international, English-language Master's degree program in Neurosciences in the field of animal physiology/neurobiology. If you do not yet have sufficient language skills for teaching on the German-language Bachelor's degree course, we would like you to have acquired these within 2 years and will be happy to support you. A willingness to innovatively develop the courses on offer and to undertake further training in higher education didactics is required. The use of media-supported forms of learning and participation in the concept of "research-based learning" is also desirable.

Recruitment requirements are a university degree in biology or related subjects, a very good doctorate, a habilitation or equivalent, teaching experience, didactic aptitude and gender competence. The appointment is based on § 18 BremHG and § 116 BremBG.

General Information

Open for unconventional approaches in research and education. This is what the University of Bremen has always stood for since its foundation 50 years ago. The university’s profile is built on a broad spectrum of subjects, which are preserved in their diversity so that new links and research questions can emerge. This leads to top-level research, both in interdisciplinary research networks and in an individual manner.  The teaching profile of the university is consistently oriented towards research-based learning. Our Bremen spirit is found in the support of new ideas and changes, a cooperative community, respect and appreciation for each other, and flat hierarchies.

With our research and education profile, the University of Bremen is taking responsibilities in the region, the continent and the world. The UN Sustainable Development Goals and climate justice in research and education are main focuses. Approximately 23,000 people are studying, teaching, researching and working on our international campus. As a leading European research university and part of the European university network YUFE–Young Universities for the Future of Europe- it is developing a new model for European higher education together with nine other universities.

The University of Bremen is discrimination-sensitive, diverse and family-friendly. It offers a wide range of services to support newly appointed staff, such as the Welcome Center, childcare and the Dual Career Program, supplemented by staff development and continuing education programs. It is committed to implementing the diversity strategy at all levels. We intend to increase the proportion of women in the academic field and in top positions and therefore expressly encourage female academics to apply. We also particularly welcome applications from people with a migration background. Severely disabled applicants with essentially equal professional and personal qualifications will be given priority.

Please send us your application with CV, certificates, list of publications, overview of projects and third-party funding, proof of teaching experience and planned research activities. We are also interested in your concepts for the development and integration of your research at Faculty 2, the forms of teaching and learning you would like to use and how you would like to promote diversity in teaching, research and the promotion of young academics.

Please send your application as a combined pdf file, quoting the reference number P 404/24 by October 31, 2024 to Prof. Dr. Christian Wild, Dean of the Department of Biology & Chemistry (FB 2), bewerbung-dekanfb2protect me ?!uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de or to:
