During the summer semester, the orchestra and choir of the University of Bremen embarked on a musical journey through the repertoire of Felix Mendelsohn-Bartoldy, the "Mozart of the 19th century," as his close friend Robert Schumann called him.
The project's main piece is Mendelssohn's 2nd Symphony "Lobgesang" for soloists, choir, and orchestra. Around two hundred musicians from both university ensembles will once again be performing with internationally renowned artists.
The concert will begin with the celebrated arrangement for large orchestra by Leopold Stokowski of Johann Sebastian Bach's Fugue in G minor, one of Mendelssohn's greatest inspirations.
The choir will perform a cappella with the most beautiful bucolic pieces, such as "Im Walde," "Jagdlied," and "Abschied vom Walde," before the choir and orchestra join forces for Mendelssohn's masterpiece.
