The German Political Science Association (GPSA) is the largest professional organization for political science, with over 2,000 members. It not only represents the subject, for example, at parliamentary hearings or in dealings with the cultural affairs authorities for the school subject of politics, but also puts forward subject representatives for the election of the German Research Foundation (DFG) review boards. Like the new board of directors, the new chair is elected for a three-year period, until 2027. Markus Tepe has already served as the association's vice chairperson on the previous board.
Markus Tepe has been a professor of political science with a focus on the Federal Republic of Germany's political system and the theory and empiricism of the welfare state at the University of Bremen since October 2023. He is also a head of department at the SOCIUM – Research Center on Inequality and Social Policy at the University of Bremen. He studied political science, public law, and economic policy in Münster and received his doctorate from the Freie Universität Berlin. Research stays have taken him to, among other places, Stanford and Yale Universities. Tepe was an assistant professor of positive political theory and most recently a professor of the German political system at the University of Oldenburg. His research focuses on the determinants of electoral and decision-making behavior in politics and administration.
