Recognition for the University of Bremen’s work in the area of internationalization: On 23rd June 2015, the University of Bremen’s Vice Rectress for International Affairs and Diversity, Professor Yasemin Karakaşoğlu, was elected to the Board of the German Academic Exchange Office (DAAD) with a resounding majority – a development that will entail even greater cooperation with the DAAD. On hearing the news Yasemin Karakaşoğlu commented: “This accolade reflects how our University has successfully been implementing its internationalization strategy. It is welcome recognition of our work in this area and increases the University‘s visibility all over Germany.”
In 2004 the bustling professor was appointed to the chair for Intercultural Education in the Faculty of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences. Only recently she was appointed to a third term as Vice Rectress. Together with the University of Bremen’s International Office she has untiringly worked for better conditions and rooms so the University was able to become an engine of integration. Yasemin Karakasoglu is engaged in research on pedagogical integration and migration. She is renowned nation-wide as a capacity for intercultural issues. The Rectress of the Bremen University for Applied Sciences, Professor Karin Luckey, was also elected to the DAAD Board.
The DAAD
The German Academic Exchange Office is the world’s largest funding organization for international student and academic exchange. Since it was founded the DAAD has supported more than 1.9 academics in Germany and abroad. In 2013 the DAAD provided grants to 119.906 people from all over the world – of whom 52 percent were women. The DAAD’s funding program ranges from semesters abroad for undergraduates to Ph.D candidates, from internships to guest professorships, and from fact-finding visits to the founding of universities abroad.
