In his research and teaching, Arne Peters examines the influences of culturally specific worldviews and the conceptualization of sociocultural realities on linguistic structures. His main focus is on the different varieties of the English language as well as the indigenous languages in the multilingual areas of the Atlantic Archipelago, North America, Scandinavia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Peters carries out extensive research into the connections between language, culture, and cognition in South Africa and Ireland, as well as the varieties and functions of English in the Earth’s polar regions. His goal is to establish an understanding of how cultural variation affects language usage and to contribute to intercultural communication.
