Independently perform tasks in research and academic teaching

As a lecturer, you have the opportunity to teach and conduct research independently, regardless of holding a professorship, with a focus on teaching. This makes a significant contribution to the long-term development oft he University of Bremen. The position is characterized by a high degree of autonomy, as the job holder is assigned to the dean’s office of the faculty and not to individual professorship or working groups. In terms of status, these positions belong to the academic mid-level sector, representing a career path alongside professorships. An important feature of this position ist the assumption of permanent responsibilities with the aim of strengthening the competencies of individual academics in teaching and research.

These positions can be filled on a temporary or permanent basis, and part-time arrangements are also possible. Typically, they are advertised publicly

Selection procedure

The selection procedures are regulated in the regulations on the personelle selection procedure for filling lecturer positions. An axademic committee (the selection committee) decides which applicants are invited to an interview and ultimately selected. Here are the key details

  • The vacancy is usually advertised publicly. The procedures are supervised by the respective departments, which are also responsible fort he Administration and organization of the selection procuderes.
  • Having completed a doctoral dgree is advantageous for your application. If you habe not yet completed your PhD, it’s advisable to do so as soon as possible.

The interview consists of conductiong a sample teaching session, a discussion, and an interview with the selection committee, particular  focusing on the applicant’s didactic concept and research interests. Subsequnetly, the committee’s appointment proposal is forwarded to the director of finance and administration für approval.

Human Resources Development offers a range of events for academic staff members, such as mentoring and collegial advice, individual coaching and advice (foreign languages, leadership, teaching advice, acquisition of third-party funding) as well as other topic-specific offers in small groups.
