Prior to that he taught physics at the University of Leicester in the UK since 2012. After studying physics and astronomy at the universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg, and then earning a PhD in environmental physics, Professor Boesch spent several years at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California. In 2007 he accepted a fellowship with the RCUK (Research Councils United Kingdom) at the University of Leicester, where he was appointed professor in 2017.
His research at the University of Bremen focuses on investigating the exchange of trace gases between soils and the atmosphere by observing the Earth, with a focus on greenhouse gases.
