Melanie Böckmann first studied humanities at Leipzig University and then completed a degree in public health at the University of Bremen. Her doctoral thesis focused on the evaluation of heat adaptation measures in response to climate change. After working as a research assistant in Bremen and Düsseldorf and as a junior professor at Bielefeld University, she most recently worked as a scientific study coordinator. The Global Health professorship will initially focus on the areas of global adaptation to climate change and global tobacco control and use. The methodological expertise is particularly focused on the area of qualitative evaluation and implementation research.
