The University of Bremen invites student organisations interested in networking and collaborating with the Climate Alliance to participate in several activities planned in the lead up to the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) and consider joining as Climate Alliance Student Ambassadors.
The University of Bremen is one of the founding members of the International Universities Climate Alliance IUCA). The IUCA network aims to communicate research results more effectively in order to make them more visible and thus better meet the challenges of climate change.
Worldwide Hackathon
The #ClimateTalks Global Hackathon will be open to educators and student societies worldwide to register, run their own hackathon, and submit a short video of students' best entries during October 2021. The shortlist of students with the most innovative concepts will be invited to present their ideas to coincide with COP26, in a dedicated virtual event. The topic of the hackathon will be "Communicating Climate Change and the Consideration of Circular Economy Principles."
ClimateTalks Global Festival
During September 21 to October 1, 2021, the #ClimateTalks Global Festival will be open to students and the general public alike, providing lots of inspiration and opportunities to ask questions about the hackathon theme during live virtual discussions. Students who register for the entire program will receive a certificate of attendance that educators may elect to use for credit in courses or assignments. The live sessions will be recorded and made available as a resource to support students participating in the #ClimateTalks Global Hackathon.
About the IUCA Network
The network was established in April 2020 by 35 worldwide leading universities in the field of climate research. In the meantime, the number of members has grown to 48. The University of Bremen is the only German member. The Climate Alliance is unprecedented in scale and scope and will support world leaders, policy makers, and industry in planning for, and responding to, climate change. The advent of the Climate Alliance comes at a time when momentum is building for countries to decarbonize their economies. The alliance will provide a central hub for universities to share the latest climate research and enable greater collaboration between leading research teams.
