The study will provide information on the number of undetected people infected with SARS-CoV2 and which viral variants caused the infections.
The currently predominant omicron variant is transmitted more rapidly and often results in asymptomatic or mild cases due to the high vaccination rate. Solid data is important to evaluate current interventions.
Students and staff are invited to participate in the anonymous cross-sectional study. It will take place daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from Monday, May 2 to Friday, May 6, 2022. A gargle sample must be provided at the test station on the Boulevard, next to the Mensa cafeteria’s main entrance, which will then be analyzed using a PCR test.
A total of 2000 test persons are needed in order for a reliable statement to be made.
The study will be conducted by the Faculty of Biology/Chemistry, the Faculty of Human and Health Sciences, and the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS.
