"Social responsibility has been the fundamental guiding principle of the University of Bremen since its establishment. For us, this means acting in a sustainable and climate-friendly manner.” These are the first two sentences of the new mission statement, which was unanimously adopted in the Academic Senate on 15 November 2023.
The aim is not only to shed light on the natural sciences, but also on the social, economic, and ecological dimensions of sustainability. "Preserving the natural basis of life is an urgent global challenge. The humanities and social sciences are just as important as the natural and technical sciences when it comes to solving the problem."
"The mission statement gives us a new foundation for our daily activities at the university and on campus," says President Jutta Günther.
How can the impulses of the mission statement be transferred to everyday life? Which specific areas of the university are affected by the mission statement and what are the next steps that should follow the text? The university management would like to explore these questions and everything that concerns members of the university in this context together in the new, interactive University Talk format.
