Program-specific requirements

The academic training in the first three semesters includes fundamentals in three areas:

• Methods and General Basics: Mathematics and Computer Science
• Subject-specific basics: Electrical Engineering
• Subject-specific basics: Business Administration

As of the fourth semester, specialization starts. The courses cover the various sub-areas of electrical engineering and information technology as well as business administration. The specialization subjects reflect the research areas of the departments of physics / electrical engineering and economics. Key competences such as methods of scientific work and teamwork are also taught in the subject-specific context of the specialization subjects. The experimental training takes place in the laboratory for electrical engineering.

Modulhandbuch

The study program Electrical Engineering / Information Technology with Management includes the two specialization subjects Electrical Engineering and Business Administration. Both are to be taken. Within the specialization subjects, currently relevant economic and informatics issues are included in the research and practical units of the program.

The General Studies (GS) form the complementary studies that students can take on beyond the scientific studies in order to acquire individually fitting knowledge and competences. General Studies also include courses on general academic education and career exploration. In the study program Electrical Engineering / Information Technology with Management, methodical subjects (analysis of economic data, statistics) are integrated into the General Studies. In the elective area, students can choose from the GS program offered by the entire university.

Internships are generally recommended. In the search for internships, the students are supported by the Career Center of the University of Bremen, the Office for Practice and International Affairs of the Department of Economics and the Study Center of the Department of Physics / Electrical Engineering.

A semester abroad is not required, however recommended. It is advisable to plan a stay abroad in good time in order to be able to integrate it into the course of studies.

Assistance in organizing a semester abroad is offered by the Office for Practice and International Affairs of the Department of Economics and the Study Center of the Department of Physics / Electrical Engineering.

At the beginning of the course of study, during the teaching of the basics, the teaching takes place mainly in the form of lectures and accompanying exercises and tutorials. In lectures a professor mainly teaches and students mainly listen. Within the corresponding exercises, individual topics and questions from the lecture will be taken up and discussed in depth. Exercises are usually offered by the provider of the lecture or the respective scientific staff. Tutorials are led by senior students. Tutorials serve to deepen the contents of methodically oriented subjects. Later on in the course of study the methods of teaching increasingly change to seminars and project work. In contrast to a lecture, seminars are more geared towards student participation. The topics of the seminar are discussed between students and professors; students can do presentations. Project work means mainly working and researching independently.

Examinations are set alongside the respective modules. Among the forms of examination is the classical written examination, which varies in duration depending on the subject. In some subjects exams are conducted electronically. Oral examinations, papers and project work are offered primarily in advanced studies. In some subjects, so-called portfolios (“smaller" exams) take place during the lecture period. Written exams and oral examinations usually take place after the lecture period.

Graduates of the bachelor program are qualified to take positions in technical sales, technical purchasing, production, logistics, management consultancy and controlling. Typical companies come from the information and communication technology industry, the energy industry, the aerospace industry or the automotive industry. The specific occupation can be dependent on the chosen specialization and the orientation of the bachelor thesis.
