Educating teachers – Shaping the Future: This is the motto of the University of Bremen’s new Yearbook. About 14 per cent of the University’s 20,000 students are aspiring teachers. And no less than nine of the University’s twelve Faculties are in one way or another involved in training teachers for all school types. How is teacher education organized in bachelor’s and master’s programs? What are the challenges facing the teaching profession? How does cooperation function between the University and school? These are some of the questions dealt with in the new issue of the University of Bremen’s Yearbook, which this year features ‘Teacher Education’.

Schools in four Bremen quaters illustrate the challenges facing the teaching profession

The video series accompanying the Yearbook explains the demands placed on teachers in everyday school life. They Yearbook editors visited teachers at four different types of school in the suburbs of Huchting, Schwachhausen, Tenever and downtown Bremen. They asked about the skill-sets future teachers should possess.

True to tradition, the Yearbook also contains the Timeline with a selection of the most important events as well as details of the prizes and awards that went to members of the University in 2016. There are also articles on teaching and research projects as well as continuing education. The Yearbook is produced by the University’s Press and Communications Office in cooperation with Gruppe für Gestaltung (GfG) and is financed by the many friends and sponsors of the University. You can pick up a copy in the Press Office and in the University Bookshop on the campus boulevard. The Yearbook is sent automatically to everyone who graduated from the University in the academic year 2015/16.
