The Master's program in Transcultural Studies provides academic knowledge and empirical methods for describing and analyzing contemporary cultures in transition. From the study of cultures at the intersection of transcultural encounters, students acquire competencies that can be used in these fascinating movements. Just recently, in December 2021, the study program in Transcultural Studies has been successfully reevaluated and is able to be offered until 2029.

For inclusion in a master's degree is the completion of studies at the Bachelor's level requirement.
The subject-specific entry requirements are set out in the current Aufnahme-/Zulassungsordnung (admission regulations).

For the successful completion of the Master's program "Transcultural Studies", a total of 120 credit points (CP) must be achieved according to the European Credit Transfer System. This corresponds to a standard period of study of 4 semesters.
Course structure
(1) Modules are taken and credit points are acquired in the following examination area:
- in the compulsory area to the extent of 51 CP,
- in the compulsory elective area to the extent of 36 CP,
- 33 CP in the final module.
(2) Modules are taken and credit points are acquired in the following areas:
Area I. Theories of cultures (36 CP).
- module 1: theoretical foundations of transculturality (9 CP)
- module 2: postcolonial location of transculturality (9 CP)
- module 3: transcultural competence (9 CP)
Cross-sectional area: module 4 profile building/ independent study (9 CP)
Area II. Methods and practice (24 CP)
- module 5: textual hermeneutics from a postcolonial perspective (9 CP)
- module 6: ethnography and qualitative methods of cultural analysis (9 CP)
- module 7: dimensions of transculturality in religious studies (6 CP)
Area III. Subject areas (27 CP)
Three modules of free choice are available.

Internships are optional, also possible in the context of study abroad and should be specifically planned, carried out and reflected upon in the context of Module 4 "profile building/ independent study".

During the course of study examinations are taken in the associated module or subsequently. The dates for examinations are set so that they can be taken and assessed for the first time within the semester in which the module ends.
Examinations may take one or more of the following forms:
1. written examination,
2. presentation with term paper,
3. written work (individual or group work by arrangement),
4. several shorter written papers,
5. research report (written and/or visual documentation; individual or group work by arrangement),
6. special products (multimedia, photography, film, exhibition etc.),
7. oral examination.

The explicitly interdisciplinary education in theory and method is the unique feature of the programme. Students are qualified for the following professional fields:
- further academic qualification in the context of specialized postgraduate funding
- international science management
- forms of accompanying research in relevant fields of practice, e.g. evaluation of integration measures in immigration societies
- experts for politics and policy consulting in governmental, non-governmental or international organizations
- training of multipliers and trainers in inter- and transcultural educational work
- speakers in international organizations
- consulting on diversity in human resources development in multinational corporations or public institutions
- expertise & consulting in the cooperation between Global South and North
