It forms part of the Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience (ICN) at the Faculty of Human and Health Sciences and the interdisciplinary Center for Cognitive Sciences (ZKW). Start-up work began during winter term 2001. Research and teaching is based on a holistic concept combining (sub)cellular and systemic approaches to cognitive neuroscience.
