(Reference number: P457/25)

to be filled as of April 1, 2026. If the general requirements under civil service law are met, civil servant status is granted for life.

Job description

The professorship aims to strengthen and expand the University’s existing expertise in the FACT fields – Finance, Accounting, Control, and Tax. We seek a distinguished individual with an international reputation in business taxation and corporate reporting who actively engages in interdisciplinary collaboration across business administration disciplines. A strong background in empirical-quantitative research is essential, and experience in applying data science methods—such as leveraging large language models—to analyze historical tax and financial data is desirable.

The professorship is expected to represent the field in research and teaching, further develop it, and contribute to the international academic profile of the faculty. High priority is given to interdisciplinary collaboration and the active advancement of relevant groups in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. The profile of the professorship offers numerous opportunities for collaboration—both within the faculty (particularly within the FACT fields) and beyond, including collaborations with the fields of data management and informatics (Faculty 3), as well as with the Data Science Center and the Center for Decision Research at the University of Bremen.

The Faculty of Business Studies and Economics is committed to providing good study conditions through high-quality teaching. The candidate’s responsibilities include offering courses with a teaching load of 9 LVS per semester in the core Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs as well as the cooperative degree programs of the faculty, with a focus on business taxation. The candidate is expected to contribute to the further development of the faculty’s existing degree programs, in particular by designing and offering modules in the new Bachelor’s program in Business Studies as well as within the reform of the Master’s program in Business Studies. The ability to offer courses in German and English, as well as the willingness to undergo further training in higher education and to participate in the academic self-administration of the faculty are expected.

To be considered for the professorship, the faculty expects publications in top-tier journals, relevant teaching experience and initial experience in acquiring research-oriented third-party funding.

A pronounced willingness to intensively promote doctoral and early career researchers of the faculty is also a prerequisite. In particular, active participation in the Diginomics Research Group is considered an essential contribution.

Requirements

Applicants are required to hold a university degree with a relevant focus, a PhD degree in their respective fields, further scientific achievements in the field to warrant the appointment as professor (such as a higher doctorate, successful evaluations at the assistant professor stage or a substantial publication record), pedagogical aptitude and didactical engagement. The appointment follows the regulations of §§ 18 and 18a BremHG as well as §116 BremBG.
