New Professor of Digitalization Technology: Evgeniya Kabliman Joins the University of Bremen and IWT

As of this April, Evgeniya Kabliman has taken on a professorship in the University of Bremen’s Faculty of Production Engineering. She has also been appointed as the new director of the Leibniz Institute for Materials Engineering (IWT), where she heads the Digitalization Technology department.

With the “Knowledge-Based Digitalization in Materials-Oriented Production” professorship, she will place an even greater focus on the topic of digitalization technology in both teaching and research.

In Professor Kabliman, the Bremen location has gained an interdisciplinary scientist who, in the course of her academic career, has increasingly shifted her area of focus from basic research to applied research. This practical focus will now also be incorporated into the new management position and the new professorship.

Kabliman studied applied physics and mathematics and received her doctorate in computational materials science from the Vienna University of Technology in 2011. She then worked at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, most recently as a senior scientist focusing on simulation-supported technology development and the thermomechanical treatment of metals. Since 2021, she has headed the Materials Computation group at the TU Munich, where she worked, among other things, on the application of machine learning in materials modeling.

“Bremen is a great place to live and work and I'm really looking forward to all the opportunities that are available here! The campus in Bremen alone, which will be my new hub, is just as it should be: vibrant, diverse, full of exchange, and everything is close by,” says Kabliman. ”The university, research, and industry here are in close regional contact, but at the same time there is also international exchange. I am excited by that!
