Alongside the University of Bremen, the universities of Maastricht, Antwerp, Carlos III Madrid, Eastern Finland, Essex, Roma Tor Vergata, and Cyprus belong to the YUFE – Young Universities for the Future of Europe - network. “We are proud to be part of the YUFE project. A European university not only strengthens cooperations across Europe but also creates unique opportunities for students and staff in science and administration,” stated the senator for science, Dr. Claudia Schilling.
The president of the University of Bremen, Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter, is pleased that the Bremen parliament is providing support. “The establishment of a European university can only be successful if we work closely together with central figures in the city and region. We are happy about every single person that contributes to this process in order to create diverse, international study opportunities and also communication paths for scientific and administrative staff.”
All Status Groups Involved
In the frame of a pilot process, the EU Commission chose the YUFE alliance to create one of the first European universities at the end of June 2019. In this phase, the network will receive 5 million euros over the next three years. All status groups are involved in the project: Students, staff, and management of the eight universities will create a European university together in the coming years. The eight partners are all young universities that have joined to create a new path for European university education.
The YUFE Vision:
The goal is to establish a student-oriented, open, inclusive, and non-elitist European university. Students will be able to easily transfer between the locations of the participating universities, study in more than one language, and move around between various European cultures. All university members will be able to experience this new quality of mobility. Constant communication will connect the locations and open new career paths for all University of Bremen members. In this way, the alliance is supporting communication, learning, and understanding of institutions, regions, and cultures across Europe. YUFE strengthens European identities and the European idea.
