Job description

We are looking for a person (f/m/x) who represents the computer science field of secure systems in research and teaching and has demonstrated exceptional academic expertise in several of the following areas:

  • Security and operating systems
  • Security in hardware-related software
  • Security in hardware software co-design
  • Security in embedded systems
  • Architecture-based security
  • Security analysis of hardware designs
  • Security in distributed systems.

 

The professorship involves contributing to the relevant bachelor's and master's degree programs in computer science and participating in cooperative degree programs (e.g. systems engineering). The ideal candidate’s teaching portfolio includes both basic modules and specialization modules. Lectures on operating systems and systems of high security and quality are to be offered regularly in addition to practical computer science courses. We expect a willingness to hold courses in German and English; fluency in both languages should be attained within three years at the latest.

Participation in our research-based learning strategy and in project studies is also desirable. The ideal candidate’s teaching style is proactive and shows a willingness to experiment, and they would actively contribute to the internationalization of the University of Bremen.

The University of Bremen is home to the EASE Collaborative Research Center, the Research Training Group CAUSE, the Data Science Center and the MMM (Minds Media Machines) high-profile area, as well as the Center for Computing Technologies (TZI). The DFKI Bremen is an associated partner of the university. Cooperation with one or more of these institutions, in particular with MMM, is expressly desired.

 

The university expects this professor (f/m/x) to contribute to research funding by acquiring third-party funding and to participate in research and technology transfer.

Requirements

In addition to fulfilling the general civil service hiring requirements, we require exceptional aptitude for research and teaching, evidenced by a relevant academic university degree, a relevant high-level doctorate, and habilitation or equivalent qualifications. Pedagogical suitability, the willingness to pursue further training and to promote young scientists, as well as experience in the acquisition of third-party funds are expected. We value candidates who have a strong commitment to improving learning accessibility for underrepresented groups and have proven skills in promoting gender equality and diversity in their research and teaching. The appointment will be made in accordance with §18 BremHG and §116 BremBG.
