Sound and passion – that was the motto of the concert at the end of the University of Bremen's summer semester. The fully packed Bremen Cathedral provided an impressive backdrop for the varied and suspenseful program that conductor Mariano Chiacchiarini had selected.
The program included Serenade for Winds by Richard Strauss, as well as Alexander Borodin's masterpiece, his Symphony No. 2.
The highlight was the Bremen performance of the large string version of the Misa Tango by Martín Palmeri with soprano singer Agnes Lipka and the composer himself at the piano. The unique mixture of sacred music and melancholic tango enthralled the audience.
On the bandoneon, Argentine Carmela Delgado filled the vastness of Bremen Cathedral with her virtuoso playing with intoxicating sounds and carried the audience away into a world full of passion and temperament.
At the beginning of the concert, the President of the University of Bremen, Professor Jutta Günther, thanked all the participants and warmly welcomed the international artists who had come especially for this event. She wished the audience an “unforgettable musical evening.” A wish that came true.

Since its establishment in 2003, the choir has undertaken concert tours to southern Italy, Gdansk, Namibia, Istanbul, Ukraine, China, and England. Today, the choir has between 100 and 140 members, depending on the project and repertoire. The orchestra was expanded by the predecessor of the current music director Mariano Chiacchiarini, Dr. Susanne Gläß, to a fully staffed symphony orchestra with between 70 and 95 members.
